Novel antibiotics target beta-lactamase

Researchers at the University of Missouri have developed novel inhibitors of beta-lactamase, a bacterial enzyme that provides resistance to β-lactam antibiotics. These inhibitors function through a different mechanism than other small molecule inhibitors, and can be used to treat or prevent bacterial infection.
